Property Description
Situated within its own incredibly beautiful 60 acre countryside estate, this villa combines the very best of traditional and modern comforts. It's a quite remarkable property, the labour of love of its architect / designer owner who has a keen eye for the spectacular and the sumptuous.
The icing on the cake is its fabulous location with nothing but glorious nature all around. It doesn't matter which direction you are facing, thickly wooded hillsides and dramatic mountain scenery beckons.
Looking across a vast sweep of rolling green hills and forests of cork, carob and wild olive, there's not another house in view. It's both magnificent and truly inspirational.
Constructed as a ‘no expenses spared' family home using the architect's own unique combination of European and Moorish styles, the villa does its fabulous location proud.
He doesn't like corridors and you won't find any here … the design features a really huge central living space with the other rooms - bedrooms, kitchen etc. leading off on three sides. The fourth opens to the wide terrace and gardens with the magnificent swimming pool just beyond. Characterised by high-pitched ceilings, spacious rooms and quality features, it is a very special property.
Inside, the main focus of the house is the capacious central living space.
This living / dining room needs to be seen to be believed; it's vast, both in size and height. Light pours in through tall windows, revealing comfortable sofa seating around its huge fireplace and to one side as well where the satellite TV is hidden away in a cabinet. A grand piano has its own space as does the long, beautiful refectory dining table.
It's a perfect construction which has been cleverly divided into varying environments for games, reading and dining. There are some outstanding antique furniture pieces and splendid original paintings, and a very obvious Moorish influence too, with intricate tilework, arched doorways and cabinets and a vast central ceiling lamp.
French doors on either side of the fireplace open to the terrace and garden spaces and to the pool outside.
All on one floor, the other rooms lead off: a big, well appointed kitchen, the laundry room and one of the double bedrooms are to one side; the other two double bedrooms are accessed from the opposite side of the living room. These are all very spacious rooms; two of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, the other one has a bathroom alongside which is shared with the twin room on the mezzanine floor.
Two, only slightly smaller, twin bedrooms (also with en-suite bathrooms) are either side of the main entrance hallway.
A sixth (twin) bedroom has been cleverly created on the mezzanine floor above the living room. It is accessed by an attractive spiral stairway.
The double bedrooms all have their own glass fronted fireplaces so you certainly won't feel the winter chill here, not least because there is central heating throughout the villa (and air conditioning too). Bathrooms feature intricate mosaic tiling and one of them has a gorgeous sunken bath which is big enough to fit half a rugby team in!
When it comes down to the little details of daily life, everything works splendidly.
Little details like instant hot water throughout the house, power pumps which maintain perfect pressure no matter how many people are showering at the same time, a filtration system for the drinking water (so, there's no need to purchase bottled water). A huge water deposit ensures that, no matter how little it rains in Spain, there will always be plenty on tap here.
A wide sun terrace runs along the front of the villa suitably furnished with comfortable sunbeds and other outdoor furniture. A central, pillared awning provides shade for those essental outdoor diner parties on long, balmy summer evenings. There's a barbecue alongside and direct access to the kitchen.
Pretty gardens spill gently down the slope to the pool just below. And, oh what a pool it is! A spectacular 20 metres long, it is heated to a perfect 26ºC throughout the winter and spring months when it is covered by a retractable greenhouse-style roof.
In July and August the pool is left completely uncovered and during mid-season it may be fully or partially covered (depending on the weather).
Views are unsurpassed anywhere in Andalucía, encompassing the broad sweep of the valley of the Rio Guadiaro with the Ronda and Grazalema mountain ranges beyond. Delightfully rural and completely private, this is the perfect place for a truly relaxing holiday.
Perfect because, although it's beautifully secluded and joyously peaceful, it isn't remote: it has an all-weather access road and is little more than 15 minutes drive from the charming village of Gaucín, one of the prettiest in all Spain. But please bear in mind that the track is quite a long one and requires very slow driving in a normal car, so it will take you close to 10 minutes to get to or from the tarmaced road).
Although just a village, Gaucín nevertheless offers an excellent selection of restaurants, tapas bars, tennis courts and, of course, all the customary local traditions of an Andalusian pueblo in the form of many ‘ferias and fiestas'.
There are several excellent day-trip destinations, none of which should be missed: to the historic towns of Ronda, Jerez de la Frontera and Cádiz, each of them offering good shopping and fine restaurants as well as lots of history and architecture of great beauty. Each has its own unique atmosphere.
For those who want a day on the beach, Mediterranean resorts are just 30 minutes drive to the south while the white Atlantic beaches of the Costa del la Luz are ninety minutes away.
Whichever direction you head off to, one thing is for sure: you will be returning to one of the most comfortable and relaxing properties in Spain. A perfect all-year-round holiday destination, one that has absolutely everything.
